April 2022The paper "Exploring Onboarding Success, Organizational Fit, and Turnover Intention of Software Professionals" authored by Gaurav Sharma and Klaas-Jan Stol was selected as one of five Best Papers published in the Journal of Systems and Software. It also was selected as one of two papers to receive a Diamond Best Paper award.
March 2021Yuxia Yang presented joint work on company collaborations within the OpenStack ecosystem at the virtual ICSE 2020 conference. Yuxia's excellent presentation was recorded and is available on YouTube. The paper which was part of the technical track at ICSE 2020 was joint work with Yuxia, Minghui Zhou, Jianyu Wu, and Zhi Jin, all at Peking University.
June 2020Klaas-Jan Stol presented Theory-Oriented Software Engineering and The ABC of Software Engineering Research during a visit to Chalmers University / University of Gothenburg in Sweden.
October 2019Klaas-Jan Stol presented The ABC of Software Engineering Research as part of UCC's School of Computer Science and Information Technology Research Seminar series in October 2019. The CSIT Research Seminar Series is a recurring event which hosts internal and external presenters. More information can be found on its website.
October 2019Ann Barcomb presented two papers at ICSE 2019 in Montreal, Canada, that she wrote as first author, and which are part of her PhD dissertation which she successfully defended in May 2019. Ann was supervised by Prof Brian Fitzgerald, Prof Dirk Riehle, and Dr Klaas-Jan Stol. The first paper featured in the Technical Track, the second was a Journal-First presentation of our TSE paper (in press). Klaas-Jan Stol also presented the paper "The ABC of Software Engineering Research" as a Journal-First presentation. Daniel Russo presented the paper "Soft theory: a pragmatic alternative to conduct quantitative empirical studies" at the CESSER-IP workshop.
June 2019Klaas-Jan Stol gave a presentation to Transition Year students on studying computer science.
April 2019Daniel Russo gave a research presentation at Aalborg University, Denmark, in April 2019. The seminar was attended by faculty and PhD students.
24 April 2019In December 2018, Klaas-Jan Stol and Mario Schaarschmidt presented their paper "Company Soldiers or Gone-Natives: Role conflict and career ambition among firm-employed open source developers" at the international Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) which was held in San Francisco, CA, USA. This paper is the result of a collaboration with Dr Schaarschmidt who visited the lab in Spring 2018.
December 2018Danese Cooper and Klaas-Jan Stol launched their book "Adopting InnerSource: Principles and Case Studies" at OSCON in July 2018. The book is published by O'Reilly, and was sponsored by PayPal. Danese was Director of Open Source at PayPal, and recently moved to Ireland to work with NearForm, based in Waterford. As part of the launch, Danese and Klaas did a book signing session.
July 2018Klaas-Jan Stol was a panel member at InnerSource Day, which is a dedicated event co-located with OSCON. The event was held in Portland, Oregon, USA. The panel was titled "Setting your InnerSource journey up for failure," and discussed a range of challenges that companies encounter when embarking on an Inner Source initiative. Other panel members included Georg Grütter (Bosch), Danese Cooper (then PayPal, now NearForm), InnerSource Day was attended by approximately 60 people from a wide range of companies.
July 2018Klaas-Jan Stol presented at a seminar on InnerSource on invitation of a company in China. The company has a very large software development workforce and seeks to improve its software reuse opportunities.
December 2017Klaas-Jan Stol presented at a seminar on InnerSource on invitation of a company based in the Netherlands. The company (undisclosed) operates in a regulated domain and is keen to improve it software development processes as well explore further opportunities to leverage software reuse. The presentation was titled "Inner Source: Coming to a Company Near You Soon!"
November 2017Klaas-Jan Stol participated in a panel at the Grace Hopper Celebration 2017, which was held in Orlando, Florida, USA. The Grace Hopper Celebration is a very large event, attended by approximately 20,000 people. The panel was titled: "Inner Source: Companies are Leveraging the Wisdom of Open Source." As it was a popular event, the panel was held twice, and was attended by approximately 130 people. Other panel members included Dr Lorraine Morgan of NUI Galway, Jim Jagielski (Apache Software Foundation), and Padma Sudarsan (Nokia); Erin Bank of CA Technologies chaired the panel.
October 2017Klaas-Jan Stol served as a co-organizer of the Fall 2017 edition of the InnerSource Summit. The summit is an event that happens twice per year (Spring and Fall). This edition was hosted by Nokia, based in Naperville, near Chicago.
September 2017In June 2017, Klaas-Jan Stol participated in a webinar on InnerSource patterns. The webinar was hosted by O'Reilly Media, a well known publisher of books in the IT sector. Other panel members included Tim Yao, Robert Hanmer, Padma Sudarsan (all with Nokia), Georg Grütter and Robert Hansel (Robert Bosch GmbH), Erin Bank (CA Technologies), Cedric Williams (PayPal), Nick Yeates (previously with RedHat), and Daniel Izqueirdo (Bitergia). Approximately 150 people attended this virtual webinar.
